On the S&P, yes, but not on the Dow (-34% at the lows, I think, whereas I think it lost 45-48% in 1974). And 1937-1942 was a grizzly one, a 50-60% decline.

you could try to argue that -100 is the level that it could bottom at - nice round number, etc.

but I see no reason to give this market any benefit of the doubt - it has shown nothing, has broken every rule in the book as it grinds its way down

the presumption of further decline is there and I'm taking it
