For hippies, freedom meant indulging your impulses, and sincerity (or honesty) meant expressing an ascendant feeling, even though it might be fleeting, and alter upon reflection. Since freedom and sincerity were dominant values, to them, they used these analyses to deflect criticisms fo their behavior. It seemed to me that the same sort of defense was being advanced to defend objectionable behavior on this thread. If I were mistaken, my apologies......
