Precisely why I think the legislation of options, if it happens, will be quite watered down.
Then what's the point? <;-)

The funny thing is that I have been accused of self-interest in voicing my support for the current system, since I live in SV and work in tech. But in actuality, I am a consultant and have made only a small amt of my net worth in options income over the years. My real motivation for supporting options, was my personal experience as a consultant going to work with some industrial companies in the mid-90s (ford, and some engine companies in detroit). The hierarchy between management and worker was shocking to me. As a consultant I ate in the executive caf. It was 75% men. The women had to go elsewhere unless they were management of secretarys of management. Which meant the worker level (which is actually what I am, had I not been consulting) can't have lunch with these guys. Boy is something wrong with this picture for all parties... especially if you know that innovation often comes from the worker ranks, how in the world can new ideas get presented to anybody there. No wonder US companies couldn't build cars for so many years. Without an egalitarian work environment the whole system shuts down if you ask me. SO options are a way to compensate those star engineers or design people an incent them just like they were executives. In Detroit they can't do that their system is too rigid.

I actually think many people in congress are old enough to remember that the US couldn't build anything to save its life until the late 80s when SV took the lead. I don't think they will toss the system out that works, but who knows they sometimes amaze me with their stupidity!
