But can such an entity be strong enough to stand on its own against internal entropy and potential external threats?

Who knows Steven?? But we're not going to find any stability with someone like Saddam in power, or his son. Both depend upon obtaining nuclear weapons to maintain their "right to rule" in the eyes of their clan.

These guys need a nuclear shield from behind which they can consolidate and protect their corrupt regime. I certainly see little good coming out of continued rule of Iraq.

And I don't see external threats being much of an issue any more than Saudi Arabia or Kuwait sees external threats to their own regimes so long as the US guarantees their rule.

And is Kuwait "US dependent"?? Only so long as Saddam remains in power. So we might gain one responsibility, but we lose the one we already have when we eliminate the threat to Kuwait.
