From the "sumpin' sumpin'" department 8/21/02: >>August 21, 2002; National Guard troops from the 19th Special Forces Group have been called up under Presidential Orders for nine months of duty in a classified overseas location. This includes units from Ohio, Utah, and West Virginia. About 70 Special Forces troops from the active Army have gone to Georgia (the former Soviet republic) to train troops there to fight Islamic guerrillas.<<

CB, a billion people use Mandarin and they have money and getting more. How about that as an option? Arabic involves not many people and why bother? They can learn American. He'd have to go to Arab places to use the lingo and learn it.

My own expectation is that it will be one damn thing after another. No peace, no end to it, no final resolution. Too many mutually exclusive situations knocking up against each other without any mutually acceptable solution.

On this agree. I'm just not sure why so many people seem so determined to punch the tar baby. The less long-term involvement we have in that miserable area, the happier I'll be.

In terms of WMD acquisition, I think the possibility of Islamist insurrection in Pakistan is more dangerous than Saddam. If Saddam ever gets the big one, he's going to keep it under his personal control, and use it to protect his ass. I can't see him turning it over to a bunch of loose cannon types that are way beyond his control.
