GB,

The chipmaker also has produced convincing evidence to substantiate that SysMark 2002 is broken. In fact, the data suggests a profoundly skewed workload which supports our longstanding contention that BAPCo has been essentially producing Intel marketing tools. We will cover these issues in more detail in an upcoming article.

I am looking forward to that article. I am curious about AMD's comments on Sysmark, and I hope Van Smith will post some of them.

Here is a link to a page of Toms tests using Sysmark on an overclocked P4. It reports 92% increase in performance going from 2200 MHz NW to 3 GHz NW, which is only a 36% increase in clockspeed: tomshardware.com

Even if all the clocks in the system increased by 36%, and the hard disk span 36% faster, its head moved 36% faster, it is impossible to get a 92% higher rating, which makes one wonder what Sysmark is really doing.

Joe

AMD has told us that it has joined BAPCo as a full member.

About f'n time.

That "we don't have the resources to contribute" crap was getting more than just slightly annoying. Maybe this is what we can expect in the post-Sanders era?

Gopher, re: [Van's article] "AMD has told us that it has joined BAPCo as a full member. The chipmaker also has produced convincing evidence to substantiate that SysMark 2002 is broken."

Interesting. This was also referenced in Anandtech's review:

"You may have noticed that SYSMark 2002 is absent from our performance comparison in this review; we're currently investigating some issues with the benchmark that we will be reporting on publicly shortly."
