They just can't hold the SOX down despite all the downgrades. I don't know how much longer the party will last Gottfried but there just no longer seems to be any sustained selling pressure these last few weeks. The 3 month daily charts are all riding up the upper Bollinger Bands, or just below them, with very high RSI on most of the individual issues as well as the index.

From Briefing.com: Sector Watch: Semiconductor Group under water in early action after Salomon cut forecasts (see 07:13 comment) but the sector has pushed into the black and set a fractional new recovery high. SOX (at 367) is testing resistance at its 50 day ema. Pacing the way today are: TER +3.5%, AMAT +2.9%, XLNX +2.7%, MU +2.1% and TXN +2.3%.

INTC Intel (19.37 -0.22) -- Update -- -- Technical -- Lagging behind the overall performance for the group but it has improved. Intraday posture above supports at 19.20 and 19 leaves INTC in position for a run at stubborn resistance between 19.67 (50 day ema which capped the upside for the last week) and 19.90/20 (upper end of its roughly two month trading range). Next resistances if a breakout is sustained are at 21/21.20 and 22.

Gottfried,

It was Salamon Smith Barney's turn today! We ought to start an "office pool" to see if we can figure out who it will be tomorrow.:)
