Can you quantify "noise" in dollar terms? It is noise when compared to huge total losses for AMD. But you are discounting a future recovery in AMD's profits, when COGS would have a significant impact. Or don't you expect that to happen?

I agree that ONE extra layer would be noise... but to add three layers of metal from the previous process requires six new lithographic steps plus the associated deposition, etch, etc. In essence it's increased the cost of the back end by 1.5X as well as the time required to process the wafers... I'd hardly call that "noise", unless you're talking about a 90+ decibel cacophony...
