Which means that AMD's smaller die size is necessary to maintain lower costs with respect to a more complicated manufacturing process. Therefore, die size should no longer be lauded as a benefit, since it is merely necessary to remain cost competitive.

Obviously, you are correct, or at least AMD seems to agree. Otherwise, they wouldn't have done it.
