The 3 basic points of conflict between Christianity and modern ethics are abortion, homosexuality, and capital punishment. The Bible does teach that Christians should obey government laws as long as it does not constitute sin to do so. I find abortion too grizzly to accept and no one regardless of their position is ever proud of having had an abortion. I can give some latitude to homosexuality, but not much. I don't believe in putting homosexuals in jail the same as we do not put adulterers in jail. Both are still morally wrong and neither should be accepted as a standard. Capital punishment was used in Biblical times so there is no historical conflict there. Most supporters of capital punishment would be satisfied with real life sentences, but the main frustration is the apparent inability to actually keep the worst of criminals in jail for the rest of their lives.
