I did not know I had hit a nerve with Judt. I thought it was great, as I mentioned when I posted it. I think Nadine's criticism is valid, not as much a book review as a memoir, but fine for your purpose and mine.

I have passed on commenting on the "Algierian" before. I really don't think it fits. IMO, There are just too many differences. I will think about discussing that with you. I don't know if I want to spend the time to research the BG in Algiers enough to make it worthwhile getting into it.

I haven't got Oren's book yet. Still backed up at the Library. The difference between us on that is that my state system has one main and seven branches, so I get on a list that draws for eight librarys. This makes it very quick for the "Best Sellers," as they get a ton of copies, and longer for non fiction like Oren. The huge retired Military here makes it good on a lot of books that normally would not be bought, such as minor military fiction. They sure buy a ton of W.E.B. Griffin!
