Neither Gates nor Ballmer took options in last 3 years at least. Both earn average salary of ~500K per year (compare that to some bozos in other companies that get 4-5M!). Other top executives at MSFT do get a lot of options. I did not calculate exactly how much. Their salaries are similar to Gates/Ballmer.
