The only viable (political, or otherwise) solution is to improve education for inner-city public schools immediately- end inequality in schooling immediately, and improve the overall quality of our public schools...spend/redistribute whatever money necessary to do it. No child should receive an inferior education because of the wealth (or lack thereof) of the school district they live in. That is just wrong. That child is not getting a fair shake. Some minor-improvements would be better support for banks/finance options for minority business/small biz in poorer communities, and continued (better) enforcement of current discrimination laws. I am anti-affirmative action, and believe bottom-up solutions are a better tool and more political palatable for all. I have no problem with a public apology for slavery....coming from the Federal government....however I am against reparations. As part of this "deal", in return, I think African-American leaders need to step up to the plate and take responsibility (and/or ask African-Americans to take responsibility) for some things within the culture that are no fault of anyone else (quit blaming others or not addressing).....including higher out-of-wedlock/teenage birth rate, "overemphasis" on sports and rap as (the only) way of make it in this life, a burial, once-and-for all of "ebonics" being acceptable as anything but slang (not proper English-, let's get rid of "I axed you a question", etc). and a condemnation of the entire "thuglife" thing. And please, no more, "its a black thing, you wouldn't understand". Lets allow all to make a new deal/fresh start on the issue..
