And btw, Syria is in violation of UN resolution 520, calling for ALL nations to respect Lebanon's sovereignty, including Syria.

4. Calls again for the strict respect for Lebanon's sovereignty,
territorial integrity, unity and political independence under the sole and
exclusive authority of the Lebanese Government through the Lebanese Army
throughout Lebanon;

For Assad to be permitted to continue occupying parts of Lebanon, providing cover for Hezbollah as they continue to attack Israel, strikes me as rather perverse.

But few reporters seem to want to spend any time discussing that. And certainly few wish to pay as much attention to Syria's brutal repression of their own extremist factions, as they do to Israel's operations against Hamas and other extremist groups committing suicide bombings.

It's all a matter of perspective. But the Syrian people will obviously rally against Israel and the US, unless we hold their government's feet to the fire in a manner that they expect us to do with Sharon.

Wouldn't it be nice if journalists asked hard questions and knew enough about a region that they would be able to make comparisons?

This Magazine on th ME is done from the Arab POV. They obviously don't print anything about Israel. Not that I could find, at least. I liked the article because it gave us what is probably a fair assessment of what the "man on the street" in Syria is thinking. It shows you just how "out of touch" they are. The press over there is still tightly controlled, and the Arab Stations are all Anti-Israeli, of course.
