You must be thinking of AMD, whose last 2-3 mobile launches had zero availability at the time of launch. Intel's last launch was the 2.0GHz Pentium 4-M, which appeared in the online OEM stores immediately after launch.

I think Intel did exactly the same thing with their mobile release recently. Machines were to ship a month from the announcement.

I remember this being the rage over on the mind control thread, but it wasn't true.
