I think it is in our best interest to maintain a viable lumber industry. As for management, a lot of effort does go into forestry at the state and federal level. I would like to hear Dave Ellen's take on the issue, but honestly it's not a high priority item for me

Good point. Rather than import cheap lumber W would rather destroy much of what is left of our forest. One of Nixon's classic lines was something to the effect that when he saw smokestacks belching smoke he felt good because that was a sign of progress. W is back in the 50's.
