tgp,"it sounds like they're using an automated script"

Yes, the script is automated, as always has been in
any Windows-based application benchmark. Before (in
Winstones) it was a Microsoft Task Manager in background
who analyzed windows messages and "pushed" virtual buttons.
In BAPCO, some strange task "smXL1.exe" is sitting there.

Unfortunately, I do not have the 2002, and am playing with
2001. I think there is deep misunderstanding on AMD part.
I just have read the AMD presentation. They keep talking
about "the time spent in each task" and "sum of task times".

BAPCO just re-iterated their "concept": they do not
measure task completion time, they measure "response
time" (whatever it means). Just watching the "Office"
part is very boring. It looks like a complete
computer-illiterate moron pushes pop-up menus up and
down, methodically, at the rate of about 1 second.
Judging from what I see, AMD does not seem to understand
the underlying issue. Or maybe it is me <g>.
