Managed to see "Throne of Blood" (Kurasawa's transposition of Macbeth to medieval Japan) and "Yojimbo" (full of conventions from the American western). The first was lugubrious and something of a chore, but the second was more wonderful than I had remembered. It has been awhile since I have used the AFI theater, and it was very nice, though less efficient about ticketing and showtimes than a commercial theater. Also saw Rohmer's "Pauline at the Beach" for the second time, on cable. Very charming and insightful. Saw a French musical comedy directed by Rene Clair, from '31, called "Le Million", about a down and out artist who wins the lottery, if only he can find his ticket. Corny, but interesting......
