Actually, Carl, I believe that nearly everywhere that horrible week or so...most of us, and our work...stopped...most people were so stunned that taking kids to soccer was just not something front and center of most minds. Here, (Seattle area) there was talk of how to prepare for a disaster/emergency....and personally I think we need to do more of that in our local areas. It could be a disaster from nature, or from man....either way, we need to be better prepared. Unclewest thought so too, and wrote a book to help us with just those efforts.

I agree with you on an "unfair draft"....But then again, I think that if we do go to an all out war, it will be EVERYONE who is doing whatever is necessary to stay free. I am neither male nor young...but I do want my grandchildren to live in freedom, and will do whatever I can do to help ensure that they do.

I don't think it's going to happen. But if it does, I can tell you one thing, and that is that this nation is never going to go to war with an unfair draft again. This time it will be the children of the yuppies that are forced to learn to kill and to get by with no legs.

There you go again, Mr. Optimist. Have they closed down the Canadian border already? ...Eh? <Hoo Hoo>

Even if you draft 'em do you really think they'll do the heavy lifting? ...I hate to tell you this, but if I get to choose the "children" who'll go out to protect my tired, old, barely democratic bones, it sure as heck isn't going to be the corps of yuppie puppies! <g>

Besides, if we did go to war "to take down the Arab Middle East" - and really now, where else are we going to go - we could easily have worse casualties in civilian ranks than in the active military. ...Unless you think all the folks who live there are riding the "Short Bus." ...Eh? <vbg>
