burn2learn, you describe some very common and present problems in the industry. Many times these are difficult to deal with, and beyond the scope of what corporate culture can correct. Mostly, I think the most effective correction can come from effective competition that forces those in a particular business to rethink their processes and methodologies. Personally, I see nothing *fundamental* in the foundry model that makes it superior to owning one's own fabs. Quite the contrary, I believe that Intel is *fundamentally* in a better position. Some of you guys may yet have to realize how to make your position more effective, but in the long run, you're in a good place to be. Just my honest opinion.
