Absolutely agree. Whales should never again be hunted for food or by-products. One only has to think of the old whaling ships, decks awash in blood and gore ... to know how wrong this would be. Even if "rationality" is one's only guide here ... there is nothing rational about expending all these efforts to save these magnificent animals from extinction, only to turn around and permit them to be hunted to near-extinction again, on the grounds that they are once again plentiful. And why would placing a limit on their being hunted be any less objectionable (on the claim of cultural arrogance) then continuing the current total ban? I agree with all your thoughts about re-thinking our right as humans to use animals for our selfish purposes. If we ever come to the point of regarding intelligent animals with whom we share this planet as disposable objects, we demean the very spirit of our humanity.

I don't care how many there are. They are too intelligent (imo) to kill for food. What got me thinking was the point in the article of the whales exceeding their, and our, food supply. I don't know if that is the case or not. If it were, however, it gives me pause. We humans are intelligent creatures, too, and we recklessly overbreed. If whales were overreaching their environment as we humans can overreach ours, would you feel the same way? I prefer to eat food that is raised specifically for food- and the less intelligent the food appears to be, the better it is to eat (from my perspective). I agree with you. I do the same.
