Greetings. To answer your questions -

1. Yes. TWS does need to be running for AutoTrader (or any other program that is an "add-on") to work.

2. You need to go to "Settings" in TWS and make sure you check "Enable ActiveX and Socket Clients."

3. I believe it uses whatever account is currently active in your TWS.

4. Yes, it can be tested using the TWS demo system. Just keep in mind that the demo is not the most "robust" in the world wrg to actual bids, offers, etc.

Edit - Log onto TWS first. Then AutoTrader. You will get a pop-up window which asks "Accept incoming connection attempt?" Click "Yes" and the connection between the two will be made.
