There is a chance of that, of course. Sigh

But I know of no way to hedge all possible bets.

And I have to say I feel better killing few animals- not just because of the intelligence of animals, but because of the mass of plant matter required to produce a pound of animal flesh. As we go up the food chain more and more energy (and thus land, and chemicals, and fertilizers) are required to produce the food. There is also the sanitation issue- with the very harmful bacteria found in some meats, it could also be a health issue.
