John, I believe it's much more than that. It's not about feminism...it's about humanism.

If the situation were entirely reversed, and it was a male out in the pit, ready to be stoned for just the same so- called cause....I believe most of us, male and female, would feel the same outrage.

It is easier to become "outraged" about an individual event, but I also believe that that individual event becomes a symbol for the larger "outrage"....

Look around us in the world. See what countries/men condone killings on a small and/or large scale because of religious beliefs. Then look around us in the world and see which countries/men condone killings/murder to further their political beliefs. An example of this was posted yesterday (perhaps here, perhaps Iqbal Latif's board) showing the number of murders of rulers of Arabian states. There were so many, it seemed the countries believe this was a natural way to change leadership.

This isn't about feminism, it's about humanism.

>>>>>What should be done. Well, it's something that's been on the table of feminism for a very long time. I don't see much sympathy for feminism around here. There is the mistaken belief that it's a left wing phenom and thus gets no respect from the righties that populate SI. It's wrong to think so, but that little paragraph will not produce a change in anyone's convictions.<<<<<

I think you will find a lot of sympathy for equal rights for women, but not much for "feminism." That, to a lot of us, is a left wing movement that gained momentum from guilty liberals. They are now just another "Pressure Group." The "Womens Studies" departments of Universities are nothing but a way to give jobs to Social Science PHD's who could not get hired otherwise, IMO.

I would not be surprised to see the "Now" gang come out for "Reparations" from the Government for the sub-standard treatment they have received from Men over the years. :^)
