To be honest, most of my hiking in real remote areas has occurred during vacations. The Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica and the Na'pali coast of Kauai are my most memorable adventures so far. While I fessed up you failed to respond to any of the issues I raised. We have three vehicles in our family, one for each driver. We average 22 MPG or so, this is roughly 50% better than most of the thousands of SUV's and minivans. I wont be driving any compact until the price of gas is much higher and when my chances of becoming a victim of a 3 ton SUV are much smaller.
