Go back and look at their earnings numbers in 2000. In many cases you are confusing good companies with a bear market.

Now, VerticalNet's model did ultimately fail because they tried to base their grab on content, and Broadvision has since lost it's competitive edge. But even Broadvision was putting up real numbers back in the late 90's. There were plenty of failures based on no business plan at all, other failures because of capacity/debt issues, others because of crowded categories, others because of fraud.

Amazon isn't one of them because they captured the front end.
