Doesn't the first step in a new economic program need to be a radical one? The first step determines the direction of the others.

The direction of the compass is more important than the speed. Many people say that there isn't much difference between the German conservatives, CDU, and the social democrats, SPD. That's why it is important that Stoiber's smaller coalition partner F.D.P. gets a lot of votes. They are a "liberal" party, "liberal" in the European sense, i.e. "mild Libertarians". They propose deregulation, lower taxes, smaller government. If it becomes profitable to do business in Germany again a lot of problems will disappear. Well, business in Germany is profitable, but only on the black market with a size of USD 300 billion/year. "Black work" will find its way back into statistics if taxes are not too prohibitive :-)

In any case, if Stoiber wins and there's sufficient interest of FADG members you can be sure that I track the new government closely and comment on it here.
