For as long as I can remember, the US was (and is still being) criticized for propping up horrible regimes in the interests of stability. I think that's a fair criticism. If Saddam is what you get when you have stability, I say three cheers for instability. Well, maybe three cheers is a bit much, but maybe a small huzzah.
