t4, I read it as well, but as I recall there was more to it than the 'strong currency'. I didn't save it.

Seem to recall it had something to do with deflation - I'm not kidding.

In my readings from the pundits I've sensed much more concern of recent re the deflation factor. Not sure exactly why. Could it be in part because commercial lending is way down, and not because banks are unwilling to lend? Companies don't seem to have reasons to be asking for money, and this certainly isn't positive.

Or are several harping on it because it is the latest fad?

The swiss frank is seen as a currency of refuge,it has risen due to that more than economic fundimentals warrent,Also I believe several Insurence Co's are having liquidity worries. Those Co's are often owned by banks.
I think you will find that the Swiss produce more than chocolate, cheese and bankers.Do not fall victim to popular prejudices.Cant remember for sure, but i believe Nestle is swiss as is Beyer

t4texas: With respect the Swiss are also strong in Pharmacuticals-Drugs,
Engineering, and Insurance as well as food and banking and let's not
forget watches (Swatch and Rolex among others) all of which would be affected
by too strong a currency.

US Today:

During the past 60 years, the United States has fallen from the free world’s
champion of individual and political freedom to an aging debt ridden
bureaucracy that over taxes much of the wealth and income of its citizens.

Not far from the mark eh? (g)
