The American People aren't always the best judges of when war is appropriate and when it is not. That's why we have to have strong leaders who can make these judgments even when the political support isn't there.

Do you think that "strong leaders" knew that the war in Vietnam would lead to the national division that occurred? Do you think the American public had anything to do with our humiliation there?

I can't think of a worse idea than war by democracy.

Then you might think it terms of a move to a country like Venezuela, Pakistan or Turkestan. There leaders almost always make war without their people's interjection. In fact, the leader of Pakistan thinks just like you......last week he pushed through several 'reforms' that in effect limit the democratic processes even further in his country. I guess he too thinks he does a better job of deciding what the people want than the people themselves.
