OT but fun

You folks know I'm a Packer fanatic. Well...my son has turned out to be just like me in that respect. The odd thing is I haven't really encouraged it - he just liked doing what daddy did. So last Thursday I took him to the Church of God (Lambeau Field in Green Bay) and we watched practice and hung out at the stadium. As we watched the team scrimmage everyone was treated to my 3 1/2 year old screaming "I love you Brett!" People were laughing as he did it and then they clapped for him. My son (being a ham) loved the attention. As players came off the field he was there to greet them with a hug. Once they (the players) left the practice field they would select a kid who had a bike and they would toss the kids on the back seat and the players would ride the bike up to the stadium. These guys were dead tired but they knew they still had an obligation and thus they would spend the next 20 minutes signing autographs for the kids. See, Green Bay is different than any other NFL franchise. As a town owned team the players have the history and tradition drilled into them by management. Each player is made aware of the special relationship that the Packers have with their fans. Now I realize not every Packer is a perfect role model. That said, I can't tell you how endearing it is to see these giant 23 year old kids take time out of their day to make things special for the kids. In a day and age where money rules pro sports its nice to see that some players understand what they mean to kids and then act accordingly. Being the big emotional thug I am I got a little misty as I watched players ride bikes, play catch with and hold the kids. Whether you like the Packers or not I think most people would appreciate what I saw this weekend. I know my son did
