Stock Fairy...don't know how to answer the question, so must not understand it. Maybe has something to do with an individual's personal situation?

Also, the whole fad of paying down a mortgage in advance is sort of a new thing, because other investments are so lousy. Most people wouldn't entertain the idea of paying off a mortgage if they could use the cash flow to invest somewhere else more profitably. Right now, saving the mortgage cost every month is a gain, rather than an expense or a loss to cash flow. It wasn't this way several years ago, for most people.
