This year's evil can be next year's good guy. Have you been following the case of the two missing girls from Oregon City? (Huh, how can you not? Yup, pretty ugly stuff........why it took so long to go after him is beyond me. His former wife told the FBI months ago that he had put in a concrete slab last winter........duh! I hope the worst thing he's done since is rape his son's girlfriend. Not that I think that's good......I'm just hoping they don't find more bodies. I'm thinking of paying a visit to the memorials there. For some odd reason, my own "wall of desensitization" is breaking down here. I am never desensitized when it comes to children......even teenagers. They're just not equipped to deal with this level of evil. What is shocking is that the people act with such impunity. They actually go into people's homes to get the children. This guy up here was talking to another guy last week saying he felt helpless in protecting his three small children. He and his wife are terrified that someone will snatch them when their backs are turned. I'm not even going to start on the suspect. Evil is a sickness. It doesn't matter whether you murder two young girls out of a pedophilic lust, or whether you murder thousands out of a lust for power and vanity. It scares me when people think evil is relative. First, when I made my statement, I was concerned with our own inconsistency when dealing with bad guys. We don't have the best track record when it comes to that arena. Secondly, I don't equate this level of evil with someone like Saddam. This is a special evil in a class of its own. Anyone who would hurt a child in any way is beyond sick. I think I mentioned on the thread once about the pedophile case I read in one of my psych classes in college where the guy would choke his victims to near death, revive them and then rape them.....he would do this repeatedly until they finally died. His victims were usually around 4 or 5. Actually, it happened near Portland I think.....maybe Vancouver. Its disgusting!! Like I said, these guys are in a class of evil all their own. I don't know if this is true but anecdotally, it seems like these kind of cases are on the rise. I hope that's not true....... ted
