Actually, what I really want is not possible because of Israeli politics, not PA. And that's for the Israeli's to leave the West Bank and Gaza, settlements and all. That, over time, draws out the anger in the PA population; legitimizes mainstream PA (or some replacement) policing efforts; and marginalizes Hamas and the other one, whose name escapes me Ah yes, where have I heard such arguments before? Lebanon, wasn't it? It was a mirage there and it's a mirage here. What has "drawing out the anger in the PA population" got to do with predicting the actions of the PA? Is the PA a democracy? Could Arafat personally survive a peace? Will Hamas and Islamic Jihad volunteer to go away? What about Fatah and Al Aqsa, who are just as radical, and are Arafat's own organizations? These are the questions you must ask, and the answer to them all is "No". If the answer to any of them were "Yes", we wouldn't be in the current situation. While the answer remains "No", withdrawal will only provide a joyful victory for all the radicals, both Hamas and Arafat.
