Hello Ken,

"... on a technical basis, a negative case can be made for a decline in equities for any coming length of time ... on the other hand, many of the technicals look pretty good ..."

I believe we can agree that this is a traders market, with tight trends....
Very difficult to work with and understand.

As a market timer it is my hope that my 'trading edge' will keep me on the right side of most price moves. This edge now has me long..., based on the hints from watching the bars and internal indicators.

I agree there should be price weakness and price strength..., that in the weeks and months ahead there will be confusion and uncertainty, with a lot of conflicting information on direction. This recent rise may not last past the first week in September, before some new chaotic piece of information whacks the market in another direction.

But out of this is emerging a new investment climate...., a new positive investment climate... but it will happen slowly, and many Traders will miss it....!

IMHO, Ya got'ta be looking for the middle road in a Zen state of mind and "Go with the flow..."

I prefer looking for buying opportunities and taking long positions, but not adverse to going short from time to time. Lets hope the world doesn't fall apart, that the economy stays together, that bulls win and the bears take long long winter naps.

My Best,
Chip

BTW, I'm long gold and silver

well said. The situation is imploding fast now. It won't be long.

... my view is that the fundamentals are so overwhelmingly negative that technical analysis will get overpowered by fundamentals ...

When it is time for the fundamentals to determine market direction, the technical picture should reflect it, since it should only happen when participants' psychies are such that they are ready to be guided by fundamentals, and technical analysis supposedly reflects market psychology..

-that's the theory, anyway.. isn't it?

Looks like you did well to sell your USD position a few days back. Is it now worth a short in your opinion?
