so little criticism

Those who can criticize (based on experiences), probably will not, for fear of repercussions.

Are we the 'American Amnesiacs' uttering the question, "Who are we and where are we going?", ...and bickering about nuances while ignoring the grand sum total of the truth?

I have a friend who says we are the Cyber Empire and feels we are destined through our military and other means to be the Beneficial Empire. Is this our path? Is this our destiny?

I agree John. Likewise, the continued arrogance of EVERY administration to refuse to go to Congress, purportedly because their lawyers tell them they don't have to.

The only reason I can fathom for the advice is they fear they'll set a precedent.

Well, it's pretty clear the precedent has been set both ways, with the modern precedent granting the President power to do so when immediate threats require the power to act quickly over a short period of time.

Since this is not the case, reverting to the precedent of the Constitution, as it was intended by its framers to provide checks and balances for perfectly understood reasons , should always be the default precedent.

Sadly, Congress and the courts prefer to neuter democracy and themselves, for political expediency.

The worship of Loopholism is not confined to corporate America; it's the official state-sanctioned religion.
