Mitch,
Do you have a military background? Your military plan is interesting and i am wondering how it was developed. Also Iraqs long term self interest lies with the west and western democracy and international commerce. Many prominent Muslims believe the Iraqi people once rid of Sadam for good will be jubilant and pro-smerican. It is important in any war to keep civilian casualties as low as possible. Mike

OT - I think taking the southern oil fields will be by way of an all-out military action with air power keeping out reinforcements. Other parts of the invasion may then be conducted at a different pace. We may ask someone like the Kuwatis to help with the governance of the southern region, manage the oil business, etc. That will be cosmetic. The south can be organized because of the religious anamosity that exists but we will have to be their northern line of defense. Think how long we could take in doing this and the oil can pay for the war until we decide (or are "able" to leave). This could take a very long time. The Saudis are more worried that if we don't need them anymore we will throw them to the wolves and we just might do that.
