Another good one by Daniel Pipes: The Paranoid Style in Mideast Politics

danielpipes.org

I read something earlier on the thread I wanted to comment on, that everyone south of the Rio Grande believes that they are poor because we are rich. This is consistent with something I'd posted about before, when I studied the history of Latin American revolutions, I was surprised by how paranoid most of the Latin American students were.

Now that I think about it, I am struck by how many posters on this thread have paranoid political ideas.

I wonder if paranoid politics is really widespread or if it just seems that way because the paranoids are so vocal.

Edit: now I remember where I saw Daniel Pipes before. He wrote a good book about the paranoid style in politics. He calls conspiracy theory an "ism," conspirism.

The obvious class act is Michael for his remarkable tact in response to JohnM's lame apologies, too bad he,JohnM, can't be held accountable for his original and first thought remarks.......as in everyday life, those first shots are generally telltale of the real person.

Enough of this regressive dialog (by me)onward and upward to better places.

Well, I'm once again in your debt, CB. Thanks for the kind words. I'm not certain exactly what ticked chuck off that much. But we are clearly better off without him.
