Even if the burners have a different target they are whining about, they know that many of us feel that our country is being assaulted and that is why they use this technique to draw attention to their issue.

I understand why it upsets people. OTOH, I don't think we should make illegal everything that is upsetting. That's just too PC for my taste.

The people who bomb buildings are expressing their extreme frustration at not getting their way too...
But they are doing more than just " expressing their extreme frustration" They are destroying property and putting lives at risk.

Flag burning is not simple civil disobedience, it is an assault on what America stands for. Even if the burners have a different target they are whining about, they know that many of us feel that our country is being assaulted and that is why they use this technique to draw attention to their issue. They intend for it to be interpreted as an Assault on America.
But it is NOT assault. It is setting fire to a piece of dyed cloth that the person doing that owns. Perfectly legal.
No property is destroyed (other than that belonging to the burner).
Nothing is stolen.
No one is injured.
No one is killed.
THERE IS NO ASSAULT!
