That ("...to blow up the planet x times") is one of the most frequently repeated totally nonsensical comments. So they make sure more and more of our budget goes to defense Until 9/11 less and less of our budget has been going to defense since the mid 80s. Of course, the hawks never stop to think if we spent maybe 1/4 of that defense money in ways that would encourage countries to be democratic rather than ruled by a despot A pile of money doesn't do much by itself, what would you do with it that you think would be so effective? But nooooooo, we fall back on the time worn concept of beating the bullies up Historically it has usually been a good way to discourage bullies. Tim

That a liberal can complain about military spending is apparently a paradox; if, in fact, liberals are so concerned about civilian casualties and the consequences of war. The military spending of the Reagan & Bush 41 administrations is precisely what enables us to conduct a large scale war with miniscule numbers of civilian casualties. It is strange that you, big pacifist, should complain. I suspect the military expenditures of Reagan and Bush have saved more lives than they have taken. No other military in history can make such a claim.
