John:

There's an easy way to tell if Barrett was "shooting from the hip," or consciously trying to lower expectations. If, at the mid-quarter update, Intel revises guidance from $6.3B to $6.9B, to say $6.3B to $6.6B, then we'll know that Barrett was trying to tell us something (and investors will have a clue on how to interpret his statements in the future). If Intel reaffirms their prior guidance of $6.3B to $6.9B, then we'll know that Barrett was just yacking, and that he should probably get some PR advice.
