Barrett has and is failing as CEO, if you expect status quo, then Barrett’s your man, But I think investors in Intel deserve more, they deserve a first rate CEO. I would Grade Barrett as “C”.

OK Wolff, you've had you tirade. Like most others, I don't agree with you. Barrett didn't cause the recession. Barrett didn't cause corporate spending to dry up. Barrett didn't cause 9/11 or any of the other reasons that are holding sales down. Intel has a commanding lead in processor performance, market share and manufacturing and I just don't see how any company could be better positioned to withstand this climate than Intel is. Barrett didn't put the economy in the toilet and you're just all wet in blaming him.

Wolff, <as soon as you have enough MIPS and good software to have it work most of the time.>

It's not a question of MIPS. We probably have more than enough. The real problem is software, especially the fact that computers will always have a tough time with understanding context. There needs to be a gigantic leap in artificial intelligence before we have "Conversational Voice Recognition." And even after that, I'm not sure I'd want a HAL 9000 around me.

If you are looking for the next killer app, it's NOT going to be voice-recognition.

As for public relations, you have a point in that Barrett's comments can become self-fulfilling prophecies. I would call that a flaw, but not a fatal flaw, and certainly nothing that can affect the economy in any other way except superficially.
