That's very good LB >>The debates between Coulter and her counterparts on the left seem to take place in some alternate universe where Walter Mondale and Jerry Falwell still tower against the horizon - where Bill Clinton shares the principles of George McGovern and Ann Coulter lives the lifestyle preached by Phyllis Schlafly.<<

Not just Coulter but most Left/Right dialogue plays this game, when most of what I see is Centrist Dems, Centrist GOPs and the Hard Right, an amalgam of uninformed Joe Sixpacks/Militia folks/religious fundamentalists and far better informed Well-To-Dos preserving mucho capital from the taxman.

The Left that briefly had McGovern as its figurehead is now a very small hodge podge of extremist single-issue folks who demand consensus in decisionmaking though they can't get along with each other well enough to agree on dinner, never mind running a coherent political party that appeals to much beyond college students and unreformed bohemians.

Coulter has broken through to visibility only by provocative statements of outrageousness that offends, much as Limbaugh did, but I don't place her in the pantheon of worthwhile conservative reads, as she mostly preaches to the choir and adds little food for the brain to munch on.
