How many innocent, uninvolved Afghanistanis did the Taliban deliberately kill before the US decided to break up their killing machine? And incidentally, the 600 troops killed were wiped out by their own Muslim brothers, not the US. Knip

Sarmad, Most germans and japanese couldnt believe what the US would do after WW2. I wouldnt be so pessimistic. Cary's doomsday scenario scares me more. Also there is a big difference between deliberately targeting civilians as sadam and el quaida and civilian casualties as collateral damage. US in afganistan were trying to hit el quaida needles in the afgan haystack and occasionally, perhaps too often, there were mistakes. In Iraq it should be more clear, due to terrain. I hope the Iraqi people one day are free and live in a free country. Best bet for that may be US action. I think you need to consider that option at least as reasonable even if you elect not to support it. US has no interest in turning iraq into a parking lot, if only because of the oil. Mike
