If Docomo can recognize how popular camera handsets were and managed to come up with something to compete in just a few months, are all the Euro carriers asleep?

It took Docomo about 12 months to release their first handset with an integrated camera after J-Phone began their service. This was a FOMA handset....it was another 6 months before they released a PDC version.

The GSM carriers are on about the same schedule as the CDMA carriers in terms of offering MMS capabilities. It seems to just take a certain amount of time for the Korean/Japanese handset manufacturers to port an existing design over to GSM or CDMA at a different frequency. Also, getting carrier approvals also slows down the process.

Hopefully, the fact that the 7650 is getting a decent reception is a good sign for camera phone sales worldwide. If usage follows the early trends of SMS, it wont be long before we start to hear about bandwidth problems for GSM carriers.
