Tom, the article did not answer the question. the only benefit raised is capacity. However, we can see how PCS did that quietly. There were over 1 million 1X handsets sold before they launch Vision this month. To the subscriber, there were no difference because they are not paying extra (not that they know of anyway) nor are they giving up other features such as standby time, battery life .... Can any carrier afford to subsidize WCDMA handsets so that they are not much more than a GSM handset today?
