My paternal great- grandparents came from Latvia, a part of the Russian Empire, around the turn of the century. They were from a couple of villages around Riga. Any members of my family who might have remained behind would have been killed by SS Einsatzgruppen in the first wave of the Holocaust, involving shooting and dumping into mass graves. I have no particular knowledge of that, but I do have remote cousins whose parents emigrated to France, who were hidden from the Nazis by a Count who was in the Resistance. I find it difficult to ignore the kind of canards that formed the basis of Nazism. Maybe if more people had shown that the Nazis were clowns, not just ignored them, things would have gone differently.......
