Honestly, what percentage of Moslems really want the Ummah, and how many are just nostalgic? My perception of the leaders of Islamic nations is that they all want to run their own countries and don't really want to submit to any other leader, especially not bin Laden.

Well sure, but that doesn't mean that nostalgia for 'the good old days that never were' can't be a powerful political tool. Consider Hitler's use of the mythical German 'volk'.
