Ted, <Saddam should be cowering in a corner rather than blowing off weapons' inspectors.>

Yeah, you think?

Saddam doesn't operate out of reason. You know that. He operates out of a lust for power and vanity, just like every other modern dictator out there. Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong-Il of North Korea are perfect examples.

Tim, he blew off the weapon inspectors well before it was clear what world opinion would be re an invasion.

He blew off the inspectors when it seemed unlikely that the US would attack. He saw what happened when he invaded Kuwait but blowing off the inspectors might be seen as less of a provocation. Besides he survived the Kuwait situation with his grip on power intact.

If might makes right and US military action
is this great deterrent, why are we still having trouble with Saddam?

I never said anything about might making right.

We are having trouble with Saddam is. Also because we have not used military power of any significance in response to his blowing off of the inspectors and continuing his WMD work.
