Democracy works with the governable; nothing works with the ungovernable. Trying democracy with the ungovernable demonstrates that they are ungovernable, and saves you the trouble of wasting your time on other solutions.

You cannot control the actions of others and you are not responsible for them. You can only do what seems to you to be democratic and right.

You would have lowered yourself if you had allowed individuals to silence their opponents and thereby permit their own speech to go unchallenged. You either rule on principle or you rule on prejudice and favor.

It should never have even been put to a vote. The life blood of a thread is the antithesis and the synthesis which flow from free expression of diverse opinions. There is no requirement on this thread that all be Conservative; and there is no requirement that all be American.

You acted in an even handed manner rather than with the bloody hand of fascism. This qualifies you to be both an American and a human. Congratulations...:-)

If everyone around here were inherently governable, there would be no need for moderated threads. Think about it before you blame democracy.

and then vanish, leaving the thread dead.

I'm here, sort of. I'm just bummed over the spill-over at Beanies and I lose my taste for posting when I'm bummed. As I've said many times, I'm limber enough to tiptoe around puddles of crap, but I'm not willing to wade through them. It'll pass. Probably.

democracy works

and

we don't always like the result

I'm sure the ever charmingly sangfroid JLA will again grace this thread

it's much too controversial to stay away from for long
